Plus Size Evening Wear - Online Shopping Experience
I did get pretty fed up recently when looking for plus size evening wear. I visited the local malls, department stores and some local shops in search of the perfect simple, full length elegant evening gown for a charity event.
How depressing! I'm a bit curvy but really, I don't feel the tent like muumuu is for me! I'm also not into the pastel flouncy stuff either! For the most part my local retailers had very limited selections if any. I considered visiting some of the local bridal shops but:
1. I did not have weeks to wait on a special order
2. Not into "Mother of the Bride" dresses
3. Not into bridesmaid dresses either
4. The dresses I did like were in sample size 10. Can't try that on.
I was actually contemplating not going to this event that I was so looking forward too when a friend suggested I look on the internet. At first I was hesitant since I knew that I could not try the clothes on prior to purchase. But then I thought, well I can't try on what I like in the stores anyway! So I took a look by searching plus size evening wear.
I have to say that I was pretty surprised on how much evening wear online selection was. At first I was even a bit overwhelmed but I did a few things that helped me narrow down my choices...
First and foremost, I only considered dresses that were modeled using plus size gals. If twiggy was modeling it it was not for me! I also made sure the retailers had decent return policies just in case the fit was way off. In fact I actually purchased 2 gowns, had them both shipped to my house, tried them on in the comfort of my own home and was able to confidently select the perfect gown for me. The other went back!
There are retailers out there that understand the potential of the plus size market. More and more of these companies are reaching out to women via the internet.
